Interesting time gaps. Was this a really long lap (9 mins down to a top pro----normally you would be lapped out after 6-7 mins to a guy of this quality). Were the conditions horrifically difficult or was the problem of much of the field being lapped anticipated.....and some extra sections added?
The last lap of a race is always a strange affair. People towards the end of the lap - knowing that their position is safe - and won't change either way - will always slow up a bit (no-one's going to catch the 'last' guy on a lap so he can ease up and finish in the same potsition).

Having said that, it was quite a long lap also. I admittedly had a very slow race but covered almost nine miles in almost 47 mins - before I was lapped and pulled out.... see here

As one of the last to not get lapped, I can assure you that I was nailing it right until the end, as I was still catching people :-)
I was surprised to get beyond about 50 minutes if I'm honest, but the lap didn't feel that long or slow.

It didn't feel long, I agree - but it was the longest (time wise) this season. My geek GPS watch confirms... as do results (8 laps for leading UK rider in c. than 1 hr 2 mins)

I suppose we (that's me and you, not the big boys) were going pretty slowly round the twisty sections, short distance = long time.
Ipswich was scary fast but by comparison Rutland, Bradford and Mallory Park were very similar in terms of miles per hour. (11.3 Mallory (but my last 500m was running!) 11.6 Rutland (Some of it spent sitting in the ropes) and Bradford 11.5 mph). By comparison - I averaged 15.1 mph at Ipswich and was still lapped. GPS issues at Derby - no stats!

The best course by far, but as you point out Dave, there were no bits were you could really hammer it for more than about 10 seconds and gain ground on those around you. National Champs next year at Rutland ?
Now an amended U14 result on the link above
