Hello, I am new to the sport of Cyclocross and wondered what were suitable tyres for the Fulcrum r7 wheels on my Ridley Crossbow. I currently have Conti Travel Contacts (700x37), as I have been using the bike for commuting. When I bought the bike it also came with Specialised Borough CX (700x32) tyres. Therefore, not sure what would be the best dimensions of tyre for this bike.

I'm not the best person to advise on this as I dont commute and we only use tub wheels....so cant comment on the quality of different clincher brands or tread patterns. However, in general, if you are racing the 32 will be better as the 37 will be slower. If you are commuting use the ones you feel more comfortable/safer on.

As they say - you can use anything from 23mm road-racing tyres, right up to 37mm as you've found.

All depends what you want it for.

For cross racing, people rarely use more than 34mm as they tend to clog up around the frame in the mud - 32mm is probably the most common, although some courses work well with 30mm or even narrower.

Similarly, how knobbly they are depends on the course, from file-tread for hardpack, through to Michelin Muds for....well mud. Vittoria, Vredestein, Conti, Schwalbe, Specialized all make good tyres, as do many others.

I use my old cx bike for winter training on the roads, in which case 23mm Conti GP 4 Seasons are good for that.

For commuting, anything really - ideally something cheap as you'll get through them quickly.

I am just about to perches a set of Fulcrum R 7 Wheels for Cyclo Cross . I asked what the maximum tyre size I can fit. They told me Fulcrum recommend you use a maximum width of 28mm. I checked out Fulcrums website and sent them a e-mail asking.
The wheel size is 622 x 15 c and it says tyre size to be used 622 23 -25 c

I asked Fulcrum That it is confusing because these wheels are seen on CycloCross and sold on new CycloCross bicycles.

The reply: I’m not able to tell you why they do that.

Ace thread... I'd take any manufacturers' advice like that with a pinch of salt. It's all from a background of fear of litigation in my view - if wheels are strong enough for potholes and bumps on high pressure tyres on roads then they're strong enough for riding on grass, mud, sand and hardpack with 40psi in the tyres ***in my experience***.
