I have been looking around the site and found an image and it got my thinking, when did cyclocross begin?

There is a pic here from the 1950

According to this article, which is pretty much concurred with all over the internet, is was c. 100 years ago.... with the first championships being held 60 years ago this year.

I rode my first off road races in 1949, they were Harriers versus Cyclists events with the runners getting a start based on the course conditions, the first real cyclo-cross courses I rode would have given the current risk assessment crazy brigade heart attacks.
Its a pity the BCCA could not have carried on without joining BC as I hate their "one size fits all" style of rules, but it is great to see the tremendous current interest in cross.
well said JB, commisairs, pits, no tarmac, no water, no steps. thought it was a bike race across the country side ????
saw the belgian X champs yesterday and they never got off there bikes !!!!!!!!!!!! thank goodness for the TLI at least we teach people how to get on and off !!!
