I suppose we (that's me and you, not the big boys) were going pretty slowly round the twisty sections, short distance = long time.

As one of the last to not get lapped, I can assure you that I was nailing it right until the end, as I was still catching people :-) I was surprised to get beyond about 50 minutes if I'm honest, but the lap didn't feel that long or slow.

Certainly - I couldn't believe it when Nick came past. After he missed his call-up I thought he'd had enough for one day!

I don't mind the rope in general, it gives a definite limit to the course, and I find it better than tape in that it doesn't get broken and blow about on the course ready for it to go into the next riders' (usually me) wheel. Blue rope against a blu…

Now we're talking - I've seen a wheelie bin with a tap fixed at the bottom, no end of water butts from B+Q on sack trolleys, and plenty of 25L containers stacked on top of each other. I've got a 50L laboratory aspirator which I've recycled from work…

Cantilevers are fine, particularly with a decent set of pads in. I've not used Vs an awful lot but mountain bikes got by with them for about a decade before discs came in, without too much mud clearance trouble. I'm sure there's other people on her…

Yes, the Empella is stiff as it's an out-and-out race frame, but it's not uncomfortable. The relaxed geometry (in road terms) will help, and if it's for winter use you'll probably be using fatter tyres anyway. The Dolan doesn't compare, the base mod…

I've owned both of those frames and out of the two I'd pick the Empella every time. I converted one into a winter road bike quite easily by having a local framebuilder pop-rivet some bottle bosses on, and I used p-clips to attach mudguards. If you'r…

You'll also find that a lot of people don't buy a complete bike, but a frameset. This then gets built up with whatever components come to hand, so bike comparisons might not be that useful. Frame reviews can also be tricky as to compare accurately s…

Can't argue with that - I did the same the week before Ipswich.

So where were the rest of the NW elite mafia? You'd have cleared up with another two in the top 10-15.

I do it while it's stretching on an old rim, that way if you do go wrong you don't get it all over the braking surface of your race wheels. Before gluing also has the advantage of allowing you to wipe off any excess glue from the sidewalls very easi…

Stick the tube in a jug of hot water for 10 minutes or so to make it easier to spread. Wear gloves and use a finger to apply it.

I'd be careful pal - remember what happened the last time you crossed a dog owner!

You shouldn't have any brake judder if you use mini-v's, as it's caused by a resonating brake cable between the hanger on the steerer and the straddle carrier. With the cable running direct to the brake on a v the problem is solved. I've got the Emp…

If you're long-legged (like me) then it doesn't really matter what size the frame is vertically, as you won't be struggling for standover height. It's top tube and head tube length that count. If the problem is getting the bars the right height then…

...it's YOUR website

UKCyclocross is simply here for you. It's not-for-profit, and there's no joining fee, and never will be. I've set it up because I wasnt to make the most of the community I see out there at the weekend races and give them a place on the www that people can post their own content to easily.
