Tub question - base tape fixing.

Just been unfortunate enough to roll both front and rear tubs in the same race. On removal the glue had become dry and brittle - fair enough - serves me right for not checking! But the base tape has…Continue

Shoe spikes

Anyone know where I can get a couple of sets of toe spikes (not blunt studs) from? Gotta get ready for the new season, might need to do some racking after the 1st corner pile up ;-) Cheers.Continue

How do you train for cross races? The season ain't far off, anybody got any training tips to ease the pain of that 1st race?

Black sidewalls on me tubs.

I've been lucky enough to get some Dugast Rhinos for racing but the sidewalls are goin all black, looks like wet rot. What should I have done to stop this happening in 1st place?

Both my 5 and 7 year old boys ride the Southwest league. The important thing is that they enjoy it and want to take part. Most local leagues encourage the future of CX racing to start young, parents are usually allowed to assist the younger kids…

For what it worth here is my 'belt and braces' method. It takes best part of a week to complete but I haven't lost a tub using this method (fingers crossed). I did roll a tub 2 weeks ago but that was a glue only method. 1. Pre-stretch…

Thanks for the information. The dreaded black Dugast mold has got under the base tapes, I think I'll send to http://www.tubular-repairs.com/ see what Peter can do.

I know very little about cross tubs but have always thought they were the same in construction as normal tubs. I have never come across a tub that has a stitched base tape?? In my experience they are all glued. I have had a few come away and always…

Apparently, when re-fixing base tape, your best bet is "barge cement" (it's the same sort of stuff that cobblers use to stick shoes together) - it's available on American Amazon, but surprisingly difficult to find on this side of…

The first layer of base tape is not normally stitched on (depending on tub type). If the base tape has come right off, I would recommend sending it to Pete Burgin   http://www.tubular-repairs.com/ as he will put on a better quality…

i wouldnt just glue it, it would definatly roll off again, the tape is normally stiched on to with a strong thread so you should stich it back together then (just like you would when you unpick it to fix a puncture then sew back up) be carful not to…

I've only ever lost base tape when yanking a tub off but it's annoying isn't it.  In theory, it's just a job for tub glue.  Both surfaces are absorbent and rough (tape to carcass) so my guess is that tub glue…

Tub question - base tape fixing.

Just been unfortunate enough to roll both front and rear tubs in the same race. On removal the glue had become dry and brittle - fair enough - serves me right for not checking! But the base tape has come away from the carcass, is there a fix for this? Can it simply be glued back on with tub glue? How do you keep it flat. Cheers!See More

No idea on the Iron Horse but have you looked at the Boardman CX bike, same price at just under a grand. Not sure if BC members get a discount from Halfords.

All this talk of training is rather unseemly - are we not all gentlemen? (I include female riders in this category) Gentlemen find training rather vulgar and leave it to players.  Must go, my Chariot's On Fire... P.s. Running takes…

I wasn't trying to argue the toss about whether running is useful or not (I was out running last night) but about the energy requirements. I've heard several people say over the years that running uses more energy than cycling but this was…

Can we keep food out of this. I'm bloody drooling now. I think (for me) running is synomimous with cycling at this time of year because of the 'peaks. I know that scrabbling my way up a 40 degree slope with a bike on my back is not going…
