So here's the UCI list of events for next season. Rumours of a round in Scotland are now scotched (sorry). Shame. It's not a problem for a good number of us getting to the East Midlands (three events there) but it's a shame that we aren't putting big events on out of the comfort zone. I'm not looking forward to travelling to Exeter for an over nighter one week before the Three Peaks, but it's healthy to get these new venues and promoters along.
I could put my hand up here and say that the North West should be doing more - yes - we should - but what about London (vibrant scene) South East (Southampton was a great nationals), West Midlands (I get this dreadful feeling that nationals will be at that fast, mud-proof sandpit in Sutton Coldfield again), North East (seem to have an attitude problem with BC events and have gone TLI on us).
Anyway - my moaning is just about in line with the current complaints about the cyclocross 'World' Cup. It's not really a World Cup, is it. We had, and still have, the Superprestige races and the GCA Trophy events in Belgium and Holland... so why have all the World Cup races there? There's a mega scene in the US, some keen as mustard people here in the UK. Still the World Cup just seems to mean Belgium with a bit of lip service to Czech Republic, Italy, France and Spain. (Spanish Cyclocross is incredibly uncommon compared to other countries).
